When the city of Chang'an 長安 (modern Xi'an 西安/Shaanxi) was the capital of Tang Dynasty, many emperors and especially empresses worshipped the Buddha and had built some huge pagodas in the state protected monasteries. Small Wild Goose Pagoda
This pagoda is within the compound of Fortune Offering Temple (Jianfusi), one kilometer south of the city. Built in A.D. 684, the square pagoda is an elegant brick structure with closely arrange eaves; it is forty-three meters high and has thirteen stories.

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda, one of Xian's major tourist sites, has recently undergone a lot of development and been made part of a much larger scenic area. Located in the southern suburbs of Xian, the scenic area consists of the Xian Museum, and the ancient Jianfusi Temple, which which houses the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Now the area has been turned into a huge park complex with traditional gardens, a large manmade lake with a traditional Chinese marble bridge crossing it.
