Nagapattam monastery, (in) Nagappattinam, Tamil Nadu, IN

This was a large and active seaport until perhaps the fifteenth century, It is located in the Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu. The earliest note of it in a text is in the sixth century. In the eight century the Pallava king built a monastery for Chinese monks and traders. Important connections with China, Burma, and Sri Lanka. The latest of the sculptures from the site date to the seventeenth century.
